Both parents were avid musicians, playing organ and piano. I played trumpet in grade school while singing in the chorus and chamber group. I first sang barbershop at the age of 14 with my dad in the Rutland and Burlington chapters. My mom played organ for the Fairlee United Church of Christ and sang in the Valley Chords with my two sisters, Laura and Carol. My brother Ken is a music teacher in CT; with his wife and 3 talented musical children, Ken could direct his own band! In 1999, I began singing tenor with the NCC. I’ve sung 3 previous quartets, before landing my present gig with the Clef Hangers. I was Chapter president for two years and serve NCC currently as VP of music, tenor section leader and assistant director.

Dan Falcone, bass, has been “shopping” for 16 years and directing for 13. He sings bass and is enjoying being the “low man on the barber pole.” He is the current Vice President of Chorus Director Development in the Northeastern District. He sang in the quartet Fast Track, which went on to win the District in 2016, and sang on the International contest stage that same year. Dan is also excited a barber shop quartet that’s formed at Hanover High, the school at which he teaches science. Dan and his wife met at Cornell U, live in Planfield, NH, and have five daughters. “Singing and directing barbershop are the hardest musical things I’ve ever experienced, but I get the most satisfaction when those chords ring!”

I started singing barbershop in 1960 while in high school and continued until my wife Barbara and I had two kids. It then became apparent I needed to be home more. In fact, my wife came to me one night with a calendar with a bunch of X’s through dates. She said “do you know what this is?” When I didn’t, she explained that the X’s were the nights I had been out singing and that was going to change. Since our kids are on their own and I am now retired, I sing with North Country Chordsmen (since 1979) and also with the Granite Statesmen in Nashua. My real passion is quarteting and I truly enjoy singing with the Clef Hangers. Barbara and I will be celebrating our 51st anniversary on September 29.
